How to use the pace calculator
Pick a race distance (or enter a custom one), type your finish time, and the calculator shows your average pace per mile and per kilometer plus your speed. The table underneath shows what that same pace would mean over other common race distances, which is handy for setting realistic goals.
Pace tips for new runners
Most of your weekly runs should feel conversational: you can speak in full sentences. That “easy” pace is often one to two minutes per mile slower than your 5K race pace, and that's exactly where endurance is built. Our beginner's guide to starting a running routine includes an 8-week run/walk plan.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good 5K pace for a beginner?
Anything you can finish comfortably. Many new runners finish a 5K between 30 and 40 minutes, roughly 10 to 13 minutes per mile.
How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?
Multiply your per-kilometer pace by 1.609. For example, 6:00 per km is about 9:39 per mile.
Are race predictions accurate?
The table assumes you hold the same pace, which gets harder over longer distances. Expect to run slightly slower per mile as the distance grows.
